Nobscot Scout Reservation - Wilderness campsite #3 (old backcountry)

Give your Scouts the thrill and satisfaction of  Wilderness Tenting!  A Wilderness Tenting Site is an unmarked (not designated) tenting site that is self-selected by a scout unit and NOT specifically identified as a site on the Nobscot Map. The characteristics of a successful Wilderness tenting experience that there is no evidence left behind that you were there.  To avoid cumulative impacts from repeated use, Wilderness Tenting Site locations are not specifically published, just the general area of Nobscot.   Go find your own tent site – out of sight of trails and give the GPS coordinates to the campmaster.  Keep group size small ( 1 patrol or 12 per area).  If you choose to have a campfire, use an existing Fire Pit and follow Leave No Trace™ guidelines. Don’t build another Fire Pit.  Before you leave, restore the area.

All Wilderness Tenting at Nobscot MUST follow specific Wilderness Tenting and Leave No Trace™ guidelines for Nobscot.

Documenting Wilderness Tenting site locations specifically would defeat the entire purpose of Leave No Trace™ by encouraging repeated use of the same sites. In addition, a great part of the experience and learning for scouts is the adventure and thrill of discovering them.

The map  highlights a region, roughly west of Haynes Lodge, that has historically been popular for Wilderness Tenting. This includes areas around and between these locations (2nd bullet uses new 2020/2021 cabin numbering):

This area has many excellent opportunities for tenting following Leave No Trace™ principles. In this remote region, latrines and well pumps will likely not be nearby.
