Joy Outdoor Family Experience

The camps listed as “Outdoor Family Experience” are accepting reservations through August 16, 2020.  August 17 and beyond will need to be booked in the camps that do not have “Outdoor Family Experience” in their names (for Example, Joy Outdoor Family Experience will allow reservations through August 16, but for dates past then, you must go to Camp Joy).

Camp Joy, which is located 45 miles east of St. Louis near Carlyle, Illinois, is a 165 acre camp. The camp offers a traditional Boy Scout summer camping program as well as a year-round camping opportunity for both Scout units and non-Scout organizations.

The camp contains 16 campsites, a dining hall, trading post, showers, first aid building, and a handicap accessible campsite. The camp also offers a lake for a wide range of aquatic activities, a full shooting sports program, and a Project COPE program area and climbing tower. A wise range of merit badges are offered during the summer camping season.

Check In Procedure Back to Top

Welcome! Please arrive at 3pm or later on your check-in day. Upon driving into camp, to check-in, call or text the volunteer ranger (Helen Renschen at 618-520-5287) to let her know you arrived.  If you know where you are camping, go straight to your campsite.  If you do not know where you are camping, the ranger will meet you at the ranger station (the first building you see entering camp), and lead you to your site.  The ranger will maintain social distance when interacting with you, for everyone's safety.

Check Out Procedure Back to Top

Please be out of your site by 11am on your last day.  To check-out, you will call the ranger right before you leave the property.  If the ranger does not hear from you by noon, s/he will visit your site to check in on you.

Cancellation Policy Back to Top

Full refunds will be given for all day, overnight, and program reservations when they are canceled one week, or more, in advance of the visit. If reservations are canceled in the week prior to the start of the reservation, no refund will be given, but the funds can be transferred to a future Outdoor Family Experience reservation, if desired.   In the event of severe weather that cancels a program reservation like boating, swimming, horseback riding, and climbing, full refunds will be given or transferred to future event, if desired.  To request a refund, email camping@stlbsa.org with the reservation number and reason for the refund.
