Description: Highland Cabin 17 (13) sleeps 10 in nice, wood paneled cabin with a wood stove. No electricity. No separate adult room. The area around Cabin 17 (13) accommodates tenting. Cabin 17 (13) is a good hike from the parking lot.

About: Highland Cabin 17 (13)

Sleeps: 10

Layout/Adult Room: Single, attractive room.

Audience: IDEAL for INTERMEDIATE Scouts
Scouts who want a small and very nicely appointed cabin a bit deeper in the woods and are not afraid to hike to get to it.

GPS Location & Distance: Cabin 17 (13) is at: 34571, -71.4456 Distance: 0.62 miles – carry in/carry out.

Tenting Capacity: Surrounding cabin: 20+ scouts in tents

Modern amenities: no electricity, no water, no indoor plumbing,

Interior Features: Small, simple, wood paneled cabin with food prep area, woodstove, bunks with mattresses.

Exterior Features: 1 picnic table, 1 Fire Ring, small covered porch.

Water/Latrines: Cabin is very convenient to both latrines and water. Nearest latrine is either at the end of the trail through the woods to the other leg of Jethro trail or a moderate walk down Jethro Trail. Nearest water pump is a short walk down Jethro Trail.

Feel: A fantastic small cabin in the woods. Cabin 17 (13) is in excellent condition with a nice porch and good ‘wilderness feel’. There is lots of room immediately outside of Cabin for dozens of scouts in tents. Great outdoor Fire Ring and picnic table for enjoying the surrounding forest.

Path: The shorter trail to Cabin 17 (13) travels over highly-sloped terrain. The longer trail has multiple, moderately-steep sections. It’s a terrible idea to try to pull a garden cart of equipment to this cabin.
Backpacking is always encouraged at Nobscot!

Directions: To get to Cabin 17 (13), take Ellisland Trail and take right onto Fire Trail. Turn left onto Jethro Trail. Take left on unmarked trail at the latrine just uphill from Jethro Trail Adirondacks. At intersection with other leg of Jethro, take a right to go uphill to Cabin, which will be on your right. Alternatively, you can take the longer (much less steep) trails by Ellisland, Cabin 19 (10), and Cabin 17 (13). Using either path, if you try to pull a garden cart up to this site, you will regret it.

Note: This cabin was previously named Highland Lodge. It is a cabin and not a lodge because it has no modern amenities.
