Camp Sunrise

The Green Mountain Council is committed to providing Cub Scouts with exciting and quality programs year round. Camp Sunrise is a beautiful property nestled between Lake Sunset and Lake Sunrise in Benson, Vermont.  In 1923 the Bush Family gifted over 100 acres to the Scouts of Vermont and since that time Camp Sunrise has changed the lives of thousands of Scouts young and old! If you're looking for a place to bring your unit to get some Scout activities done or if your not a scout and looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to stay, then Camp Sunrise is the place to be.

Directions to Camp

FROM RUTLAND

Go West on Route 4 to Exit 2

Turn Right on Route 22A

Turn Right on Route 144 (Follow Signs)

There is a State Sign for Camp Sunrise

G & L Store is on the corner

Look for the big beaver sign

Turn Left on Lake Sunset Road

It is the first left hand turn

When you see the lake you’re there

FROM BURLINGTON

Go South on Route 7 to Vergennes (30 minutes)

South on Route 22A to Benson (40 minutes)

Camp Use Policy Back to Top

1. The Scout Oath and Law will be the basis for personal conduct by ALL persons using the facilities.

2. Twenty-One (21) year old leadership must be present with the unit at all times. A second leader, age 18 or order, must also be present. Youth Protection rules will be strictly enforced.

3. Propane stoves and lanterns are recommended for groups using cabins or campsites. Liquid fuel stoves and lanters are permitted in campsites and some cabins. All stoves and lanterns must be commercial products recommended for camping using. A responsible adult must be directly responsible for all fuel storage and fueling or stoves and lanterns. Bulk fuel containers must be stored with the Camp Ranger. No liquid fuel including charcoal lighter is to be used for starting fires. No chainsaws permitted.

4. NO ROCK CLIMBING/RAPPELLING permitted without permission from Camp Administration, anyone found on or near rock or cliffs will be sent home.

5. No firearms, including air rifles or pistols, are allowed. Fire crackers or fireworkers(including sparklers) are also prohibited.

6. Pets are not allowed in camp.

7. The Boy Scouts of America prohibits the use of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances at encampments or activities on property owned and/or operated by the Boy Scouts of America, or at any activity involving participation of youth members. Adult leaders should support the attitude that young adults are better off without tobacco and may not allow the use of tobacco products at any BSA activity involving youth participants. All Scouting functions, meetings, and activities should be conducted on a smoke free basis, with smoking areas located away from all participants. No smoking in any building on any council property.

8. All cars and trucks must be parked and unloaded in the designated parking areas. All types of camping vehicles must be parked according to the instructions of the Camp Ranger.

9. Leave your campsite cleaner and in better shape than you found it. Remember, someone will be leaving a campsite for you. All fires are to be started in established fire rings. 

10. Use of the kitchen in the Dining Hall requires specially trained staff which will be determined on an individual group basis by the Program Sales and Marketing Director.

11. The Green Mountain Council provides accident insurance for all in-council units. Each unit attending camp must provide a roster form upon arrival. And accident that occurs at camp must be reported.

Cancellation Policy Back to Top

Green Mountain Council property reservations that are cancelled in advance of 14 days prior to the reservation are transferable; otherwise you will receive a refund, minus a $50 cancellation fee, or the reservation fee, whichever is less. If the reservation is cancelled within 14 days, no refund is given, but the reservation is transferable to another rental period within the calendar year.

All items must be left in as good if not better then when found. If items are not cleaned you will be assessed a cleaning fee.
