Buck Hill

Buck Hill Scout Camp is a great camp to work on basic scout skills throughout the entire year.  Camping reservations can be made for weekday and weekend camping. Buck Hill is located in Pascoag, RI 1 ½ miles from the Buck Hill Management area. Most of the camp offers tent camping sites with 5 sites on the waterfront of Wakefield Pond. Boating and fishing off the dam are popular activities at Buck Hill as is hiking.  There are also has 2 cabins that can be reserved, and Buck Hill is home to the largest cabin on any of our council properties, Hamilton Lodge. Hamilton Lodge is a great cabin for large Troops or Packs hosting family camping events as it can accommodate 50 campers.

NARRAGANSETT COUNCIL, BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

CUB SCOUT CAMPING POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Overview

Kids join Cub Scouting because of the outdoor program!  Further, youth will stay in the program and receive the full benefit of Scouting if they enjoy successful outdoor program experiences.  Indeed, one of the Narragansett Council’s prime strategic objectives has been to increase the amount of outdoor programs available to Cub Scouts and their families.

A successful outdoor program experience is one that is age-appropriate and is conducted at an appropriate, well maintained facility and one that meets the BSA’s guidelines for Cub Scout outdoor activities.

Pack Overnighters

The Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) syllabus establishes site requirements for Pack Overnighters.  These requirements include access to indoor restroom facilities and council approval of the site.

The cabins at Camp Champlin, Cub World, Norse and Camp Yawgoog meet these requirements and are available year-round (other than during summer camp season).   The following Narragansett Council camps meet BALOO requirements and are available for seasonal tent camping:  Camp Aquapaug, Buck Hill, Camp Champlin, Camp Norse and Camp Yawgoog.  (All are subject to availability of water in early spring or late fall). When planning early spring or late fall outdoor events pack leaders should consider weather conditions.  Cub Scouts are prohibited from tent camping when overnight temperatures fall below 40 degrees (roughly November 1 – April 1).
