Huskanaw is the Powhatan Indian name for the rite of passage that taught young men the skills needed to meet their responsibilities in the tribe. Our Huskanaw program area is designed to do much of the same thing by teaching new Scouts the skills they need to fully participate in troop activities.
At Summer Camp, the Huskanaw program provides opportunity for an overnight campout. Participants will set-up personal tents and camp as a Huskanaw troop. That evening they cook together, and spend the night away from their units. The boys return with the camp staff in time to join the rest of the camp for morning flags.
Non-Summer Camp, you can utilize this area to enhance your own troop weekend program, including using the knot tying stations, Squirrel Run, and using our 1 mile Orienteering Course (that starts and end from our Orienteering Gazebo). Please ensure that your facility use request is submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to your arrival date otherwise your reservation can't be guranteed.
Prior to your arrival at camp, the Weekends Campmaster will contact your unit with exact check-in information. Upon arriving at camp, the Campmaster will check you in, collect your participant roster, explain the rules, and show you to your campsite.
The Campmaster for the weekend will advise you of the specific check-out procedures for your departure. Please ensure that your campsite and any faculties you utilize while visiting the property are left in the same condition, if not better, than what you found them in.
Tidewater Council property reservations that are canceled in advance of 14 days prior to the reservation are transferable; otherwise you will receive a refund, minus a $20 cancellation fee, or the reservation fee, whichever is less. If the reservation is canceled within 14 days, no refund is given, but the reservation is transferable to another rental period within the calendar year.
All facilities and amenities must be left in as good if not better condition then when found. If facilities are not cleaned or amenities left in nonworking order, you will be assessed a cleaning or replacement fee.
