Camp Gorsuch

Located on Mirror Lake as part of the Rasmuson Scout Reservation, Camp Gorsuch offers week-long overnight camping for Scouts from the Great Alaska Council and other visiting Councils. The program has been designed to offer Scouts a wide variety of fun, challenging opportunities to help them progress along the Trail to Eagle and a wide variety of Merit Badges. Gorsuch features Project C.O.P.E. for Scouts 13 years and older highlighting the Nanuk Lodge Brotherhood Climbing Tower.

Camp Use Policy Back to Top

1. The Great Alaska Council requires payment in full to hold rental dates. There is a 10% nonrefundable booking fee included in your rental. Security deposit is required at check-in, bring a check and it will be returned upon your groups check-out completion assuming there are not deficiencies.

2. Check in time is 3pm and check-out time is 10am.

3. The council must have your training certificates on file for use of the climbing wall/ COPE course. These require special accommodation, contact the camp ranger.

4. Equipment must be returned clean and free from damage beyond reasonable wear and tear. Renters are responsible to replace any equipment/ property that is lost, stolen, or damaged during the rental.

6. For use of the COPE course, climbing wall, or waterfront your group must carry additional insurance.

7. No animals are allowed on camp property except with approval from the reservation manager. This includes pets on or off a leash. Please leave your dogs at home.

8. Prohibited Items: Alcoholic beverages, Ammunition, explosives, fireworks, firearms

9. Smoking is not permitted in camp tents, buildings, and structures.

10. Speed limit at camp is 5mph

11. No rides in the back of trucks

12. Fires are only permitted within established fire rings. Fires must be left DEAD OUT.

13. Respect wild animals. Do not feed or harass any animals.

14. You should never bathe or do laundry or dishes in or near a lake or stream. Please remember to turn off any faucets after you are done using them.

15. Respect all trails. Do not cut green boughs or trees, or mark them. Do not alter or change trail signs.

16. A current certificate of Liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 is on file naming the Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America at 3117 Patterson St., Anchorage, AK, 99504 as additionally insured.

17. Great Alaska Council is not responsible for any power outage to provide an alternative source of power.

Agreement to Hold Harmless: The renter shall indemnify and save harmless The Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America and its agents, members, and employees from all suits, actions, or claims of any character, type or description brought or made for or on account of any injuries, death or damages received by the Renter, its employees, agents, members or invitees, or any property possessed by the Renter, its employees, agents, member or invitees which may arise out of or be occasioned by the acts of the Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America, its agents, members or employees in the execution and performance of this contract or the presence of the Renter, its employees, agents, members or invitees on property owned or operated by the Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America, its agents, members, and employees.

Check In Procedure Back to Top

1. Sign in with Camp Ranger located at Camp Gorsuch (unless other arrangements are made in advance). . You are required to bring a separate check for a security deposit. This check is held until you check-out, and after your group has successfully cleaned up and no damage your check will be returned to you. Should there be any deficiencies the check will be retained.

3. Verify Reservation(s)

4. Establish Check-out time and location. Plan on spending 1 to 2 hours conduction the final inspection.

5. Conduct Initial Building Inspection with manager using Building Inspection Checklist

PS Remember there are no dogs or pets allowed on camp property


NOTE: During winter months, we attempt to keep primary roads into camp plowed. However, large vehicles like passenger buses should come prepared to install tire chains once they leave the main highway and enter the camp roadways.

Check Out Procedure Back to Top

1. Contact Reservations Manager to confirm Check-out time and location. (Should be scheduled at least 1 to 2 hours prior to departure)

2. Please Complete Building Inspection Checklist Prior to Manager Walk-thru

3. If possible have a few personnel still available for Touchups!

4. Conduct Walk-thru of facilities with Manager, Provide Building Inspection Checklist to Manager and Sign out. The manager will return your security deposit check at this time if there are no discrepancies noted.

**45 Days prior is full refund. Anything between 45 and 30 days is 50% refund. Within 30 days is only for extenuating circumstances, usually only granted in cases of emergency.

There is a 10% booking fee that is non-refundable.
Cleaning Policy Back to Top
Each group is responsible for leaving camp neat and orderly. Your campsite should be left litter-free with its latrine clean. All garbage is the be emptied and placed in dumpsters provided. Trash liners are to be replaced in garbage cans.

Groups that leave camp dirty or that do not haul their own trash/garbage to the dumpster will be charged a cleaning fee.
