Camp William B. Snyder

Located in the rural crescent of Prince William County Virginia 45 miles from Washington DC, Camp William B. Snyder encompasses 325-acres including a managed wetland. A premier camping location within the National Capital Area Council of the BSA our facility has been open to Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers and community organizations since 2006. Whether you come to camp, foster team-building, enjoy a high-quality outdoor program experience or just need a place to stay while visiting DC we are here for you.

Ranger Notes

*Vehicles are to remain on the gravel roads only. Under no circumstances may a vehicle be driven or parked in or on grassy areas or treed areas for any reason.

*Vehicles may enter the campsite area to drop off / pick up gear. Vehicles in the campsite loop for drop off have a 10 minute window in which to do so and may not remain parked at the campsite. The camp speed limit is 10mph and the campsite loop is a one way road.

*One Troop trailer is permitted per camp site in the designated trailer spaces. Trailers must remain out of the fire lane.

*In accordance with Virginia law firewood may not be brought into camp.

*No new campfire sites established. You are expected to have ample water nearby when using established campfire rings.

*All fires must be extinguished if not attended.

Please note: Throughout the year, a state fire ban maybe in effect.You can obtain information on the ban through the Virginia Department of Forestry website

*Camp Quiet Hours are 10pm-6am.

*All theme areas (ship, fort, big-dig) are off limits unless rented and specified on your rental agreement.

*Alcohol is not permitted on camp premises.

*Cigarettes are restricted to approved smoking areas behind the dining hall and administration building.

*No pets are permitted on camp premises.

Cabin specific policy and rules:

*Vehicles may park in the parking areas near the cabins. (please be respectful as these lots are shared by the 4 cabin facilities)

*Use of the cabin’s wood stoves is prohibited. Please do not light fires of any kind in the wood stoves.

*Cabin interior bathroom is intended for adult leader (age 18+) use only. There is a shower house open year round accross the street from the cabins.

*Do not move or unstack the bunk beds.

*Leave the cabin(s) and shower house in equivelent or better shape to how you found it. Cleaning materials are provided in the Janitor’s Closet.

*Chairs are to be left stacked on the top of the tables in the 3 bunkroom cabins.

*Pack out everything you pack in. Please do not leave food in the cabins. Make sure you take all pots, pans, paper and plasticware with you when you depart.

Directions to Camp

From the east (Capital Beltway – Route I-495):

Take Interstate 66 west to exit #40 (Route 15).
Travel south on Route 15 to the second traffic light and turn right onto Route 55 (John Marshall Hwy).
Travel west about 1 mile to Antioch Road.
Turn right onto Antioch Road and follow sign to Camp Snyder.

From the south:

Travel north on Route 15 (Warrenton), Route 7100 (Fairfax County Pkwy) or Route 28 (Manassas) to Interstate 66.
Travel west on Interstate 66 to exit # 40 (Haymarket, VA).
Travel south on Route 15 to the second traffic light and turn right onto Route 55 (John Marshall Hwy).
Travel west about 1 mile to Antioch Road.
Turn right onto Antioch Road and follow sign to Camp Snyder.

From the north:

Travel south on Route 15 (Leesburg), Route 28 (Sterling) or Route 123 (McLean) to Interstate 66.
Travel west on Interstate 66 to exit #40 (Haymarket, VA).
Travel south on Route 15 to the second traffic light and turn right onto Route 55 (John Marshall Hwy).
Travel west about 1 mile to Antioch Road.
Turn right onto Antioch Road and follow sign to Camp Snyder.

Camp Use Policy Back to Top

Camp Snyder facilites are available to Scout Units, schools, church groups, established youth organizations, and government agencies. We do not rent facilites to private party events. We are only able to support tent camping or cabin camping.

Check In Procedure Back to Top

All groups/organizations must check in at the Hylton building upon arrival. (first on the right when you enter the camp gates)

The event or unit leader is responsible for providing a unit roster which reports the number of participants in their group. For Scouts BSA or Venturing units this must list the BSA id numbers and youth protection dates for any adults in attendance. 

Camping is allowed only in designated camping areas and parking is not allowed in the campsite loop.

By Order of the Prince William Fire Marshal and per PWC Land Usage agreement, all vehicles must park in main parking lot. One trailer will be allowed to remain in a campsite area only in the designated space.

Following Virginia State guidelines, no firewood may be brought into camp.

Camp quiet hours are 10:00pm – 6:00am

Check Out Procedure Back to Top

Check-out is at 11:00am on your last day.

Please contact the Campmaster or Camp Ranger on duty to inspect the facilities you have used prior to your departure.

You are expected to leave the campsite and the shower house closest to your camp site in as good or better shape than you found it. Cleaning materials are provided. All trash is to be in a tied up in garbage bags and deposited in the green dumpsters located behind the dining hall.

A Scout is CLEAN. Please leave our facilities in equivelant or better shape than you found them. Cleaning materials are provided.

All trash is to be tied up in garbage bags and deposited in the camp dumpster behind the dining hall. Please do not leave your trash in the shower houses.
