CAPITOL AREA COUNCIL                                                                BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

Lost Pines Scout Reservation

COUNCIL CANOE PROGRAM
Off-Site: The Capitol Area Council has 3 canoe trailers that can transport 8 canoes each and are available to registered Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Scout Teams, Venture Crews and Explorer Posts. Canoes, equipment and trailers may be obtained by paying a small maintenance fee in advance. The maintenance fee is charged only on canoes and trailers checked out for use outside the LPSR camp. Units must submit copies of "Safe Swim Defense & Safety Afloat" certification to the Campmaster or camp ranger to pick up the off-site canoes and trailer.

The canoes, trailers and all other equipment are located in the central maintenance yard at LPSR. It is the responsibility of units reserving canoes and trailers to provide their own approved transportation, trailer hookups and insurance. You will need a 2" ball hitch and a four (4) prong tail light plug (similar to one-way rental trailers).

Because of extensive use by Council units and limited numbers of canoes and equipment, use of the canoes and equipment will be limited to in-Council units. Out-of-Council units may make use of the canoes available at Lost Pines by camping there.

RESERVATIONS
Canoes and equipment can be reserved by units on a first come, first served basis by making reservation on the council online reservation and payment system. No reservation can exceed six (6) days.

Unit must file a TOUR PLAN and upload a FLOAT PLAN to MyScouting.org and comply with all BSA Policies in order to use Capitol Area Council, BSA canoes.

NOTICE!!!
The canoe expedition leader must qualify in knowledge and skills for "Safe Swim Defense" and "Safety Afloat." An agreement must be signed to this effect. All participants must be trained by the leader in the proper use of these skills.

LOST, DESTROYED OR DAMAGED CANOES OR EQUIPMENT
The unit is fully responsible for lost, destroyed or damaged canoes or equipment and agrees to pay the replacement cost if lost or destroyed and agrees to pay for the repair of repairable items. Large damages will be adjusted and settled in a meeting between the unit leader and the Council Director of Support Services.

TOLL ROADS
Trailers  MUST NOT be pulled on Toll Roads. The unit will be responsible for paying $25 fee to CAC-BSA for processing and payment of fees/fines incurred for unit’s use of council trailer on toll roads.
