Ranger Notes

Smilin V Scout Ranch, Liberty Hill, Texas

Some things you need know:

The following applies to District or Council events only:

There is no hot water or propane gas for the kitchen at the pavilion. THE KITCHEN IS CURRENTLY AWAITING CONSTRUCTION AND CANNOT BE USED.

Do not cook inside the kitchen area, there is no stove there and the charcoal and propane grills there must be taken outside the pavilion to use.

If you intend to use the propane grills please be sure to bring propane for them.

Breakers for the lights in the pavilion are located across from the kitchen on the outside of the building. Please be careful not to turn off breakers controlling refrigerator or freezer. DO NOT LEAVE ANY FOOD, PANS, AND PAPER GOODS! If you brought it please take it home.

You may need to provide port-a-lets for use at camp since there may not be enough appropriate restroom facilities. (THERE ARE 6 TOILETS IN THE BATHHOUSE).

Please remove all signs you bring to camp to use. Please leave nothing behind!

You cannot do .22 rifle or shotgun at Smilin V. Only BB Gun, Air Rifle or Archery are approved for this camp. Must be age appropriate and follow the guidelines in the Guide to Safe Scouting.

If you plan on doing any of these three Shooting Sports events we need to discuss the approved course for these activities.

Camping and events may take place almost anywhere as long as they do not involve a vehicle.

The following apply to both weekend camping and district/council events:

All water in camp is potable. There are spigots available on the exterior of the bathhouse, at the back of the pavilion, on the front of the stable, on the exterior of the office, in campsite 4, and campsite 5.

Parking for all is in the parking lot. No cars should be past this point. Even though we are at a Scout camp please secure and lock your vehicle and securely stow all belongings. For ADA parking or special needs please see the Camp Ranger.

It would be a great idea to bring hand carts or wagons to haul gear for all events.

No ground fires permitted on this site with the exception of the campfire area, please use off the ground pits (which you must bring). Be careful if the wind is high! We don't want to set the county on fire!

The Campfire area is located behind Campsites 5 and 6 near the wood fence. Please do not move it or do campfire elsewhere, and please make sure it is cold to the touch when finished.

Leave no trash -- if you haul it in, haul it out. Camp does not have a trash service.

A unit roster is required as part of the check-in procedure. All units and district or council events must provide the camp with a roster of all attendees. These must be sorted by registered youth, registered adult and guest. Please turn these into the ranger upon arrival.

No tractors, mowers, Mules, Gators, Rhinos, 4-wheelers or other such ATV’s are approved for this property. If you wish to use these type vehicles please see the Ranger in advance of your event.

All vehicles driven on this property must be with a state licensed driver. Any ATV type vehicle or machinery must have a licensed driver 18 years of age or older, who has the proper ROHVA driver training.

Please contact the Ranger prior to your event with any details about your event he may need to know. He will try to mow areas for your event but must know ASAP where you plan to do your event.

If you have issues with any of these please contact the camp Ranger.
