Camp Baldwin

Camp Baldwin is located in the scenic Mount Hood National Forest near Dufur, Oregon. Tall evergreens and plentiful wildlife abound. Blue skies and warm winds on the eastern slope of Mount Hood attract many Scouts to this pine forested camp each year. Snow camping and cross-country skiing are popular activities during the winter months. Lake Hanel offers catch-and-release fishing.
Ranger Notes

2-14-2024

We open one restroom per cabin and label that room with the Troop number.  When units check out, they are responsible for cleaning only the restrooms and cabins, or buildings, they used.

One of the dining shelters in Palamino has collapsed under the snow.  There is now only one dining shelter in that campsite.

People are welcome to collect downed branches from around camp for firewood, but that can be difficult under the snow.  The camp committee has set up split, seasoned, dry firewood available for purchase on site.  Proceeds go to support camp.  The price is the same as at Meriwether.  $4.00/bundle or three bundles for $10.00, cash or check.  It is much cheaper than the stores, larger bundles, and they don’t have to pack it in.  The Forest Service suggests that firewood not be transported from areas more than thirty miles away to prevent disease and pest transfer.

I have brought over about 20 innertubes and helmets for the Scouts to use here.  There is not a designated sledding hill yet, but hopefully we will develop one before next winter.  The road just below the cabins is a good slope.  Units are responsible for monitoring the safety of their sledding.

Units should come with water containers to haul water from the freeze proof spigots.

Thank you,

Andy
